Harlem Restaurant Review: La Grange. Five Stars!
by Bohemia Agent Christopher Tefft
Just the other day I went on a date to La Grange – a new neighborhood bar and eatery located on 141st and Amsterdam. I’m an easy-going fellow when it comes to what to have for dinner: I’m not picky— I just want quick service! And La Grange certainly delivered in that aspect and every other. I was impressed with our service, and was impressed by the range and quality of our options. I had the most delicious Stone craft beer – recommended by our fabulous waitress Tamra.
My friend had a custom cocktail creation from their well-stocked bar. For dinner, we picked the pastas. I enjoyed an incredible Fettuccine Carbonara, while he picked delicious Tagliatelle Pasta. Concerning my dish, I thought the flavors of garlic, bacon, brussel sprout, and cream sauce were complimentary and engaging – the best of comfort foods.I don’t usually write about food – I usually write about apartments! But staying true to that style – I can say that these dishes were a sweet deal – in a great location – and included all the amenities you could possibly desire! I loved the ambiance of this restaurant – the massive storefront windows reflecting Harlem.
There was a hearty buzz of friendly conversations. I could see dates, friendships, and parties flourishing all around us. I thought the antique individualistic memorabilia decorating the lofts and corners of the restaurant gave this place a familiar, friendly feel. What else I think is classy: their Facebook lists the whole Culinary Team and all their General Managers, – which speaks to the operation’s a sense of pride.
I think its so awesome that this restaurant is within walking distance of my home in upper Manhattan. I can take a leisurely stroll down there any time I like. I’ll definitely be visiting again – hopefully for dessert next time!
La Grange is located at 1635 Amsterdam Avenue – the closet subways are the ABCD at 145th street.
