As New Yorkers, we all know what spring truly brings. Is it sunny days and temperate winds, the morning surprise of newly budded leaves on the trees? No. New Yorkers know that the only thing these fleeting crisp days bring is the impending doom of a sweltering, humid summer that is upon us. But fear not my fellow Harlem neighbors because I have found the Lasker Pool located on the northern edge of Central Park btw 106th and 108th streets. Where everyone is welcome and there is no cost for cooling down.
The Lasker Pool features a wading pool and an Olympic pool for visitors to enjoy. Open every summer from the end of June through labor day, this free pool provides a deck area for sun bathing, lockers (you provide the lock) and a concession stand just in case you get hungry. But remember thirty minutes before you get back in the pool, mom is watching.
So fear not my fellow New Yorkers, while we can’t stop the heat, we can still dunk ourselves in cool waters. See you at the pool!
